Two resins, one job

Epoxy and polyaspartic are both resin floor coatings. Both go over prepped concrete. Both resist oil, chemicals, and tire marks far better than paint. The difference is how they behave during and after the install — and that decides which one fits your project.

Cure time is the big split

Standard epoxy needs about a day before you can walk on it and two to three days before you park on it. Polyaspartic cures much faster — often ready for foot traffic in hours and vehicles the next day. If your garage cannot sit empty for days, polyaspartic earns its keep. It also cures in colder weather, which stretches the install season in Northern Virginia.

Sunlight matters

Standard epoxy can yellow or fade under direct sun. That is fine in a closed garage but a problem on a sunlit patio or a storefront with big windows. Polyaspartic resists UV far better. Many installers use epoxy as the base coats and finish with a polyaspartic topcoat — the strength of one, the sun resistance of the other.

What about cost?

Polyaspartic material costs more than epoxy. The faster cure can offset that on commercial jobs where downtime costs money. For most homes, epoxy with a good topcoat is the sweet spot.
